OUR VALUES

Why Ocean Aquaculture?

Aquaculture, especially in the Meditaranean, faces limitations due to competition with tourism, traditional fishing activities and protected areas. To overcome these challenges and achieve larger and more efficient scale, there is a growing trend towards moving aquaculture further into deeper waters with the utilization of offshore technologies.

Offshore aquaculture is considered as a advanced technological solution that allows the culture of species at great distances from the coast eliminating interfering with other coastal activities. In this way, the production of healthy food for the population is ensured, with a higher degree of sustainability than traditional aquaculture in all its social, environmental and economic aspects.

Offshore aquaculture also presents a high degree of resilience against climate change, guaranteeing food production in natural habitat conditions and is fully integrated into European BLUE GROWTH policies
